Chairman Jack Harkins, USMC Retired UVC service 13 years Chairman 2012-2013.
Jack Harkins is a retired Marine officer. His 35 year Marine Corps career included 9 years enlisted service 1965-1975, and then commissioned service until 2001. He served two combat tours in Vietnam, 1966 – 1968; combat duty in Somalia 1993; commanded Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 1995-1997; retired in May 2001 from duty as Deputy Chief of Staff for Installations and Logistics, Marine Corps Air Bases Western Area. He entered private business and managed facility construction of information technology and communication centers in California, Nevada, and Washington. He accepted a Marine Corps civilian staff position directing Installations and Logistics functions for Commander Marine Corps Air Bases Western Area 2002-2009, during which he made the site selection for a Veterans cemetery on MCAS Miramar property that became Miramar National Cemetery in 2010. Current additional services: Board Chairman 03XX Foundation; Member of The Defense, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce; Member of San Diego Military Advisory Council; Chairman of the Veterans Day Parade and Veterans Week San Diego; Veterans Museum & Memorial Center Board of Directors; One VA Community Advisory Board Member. His Veterans Service memberships are: Marine Corps Association Life Member, Military Order of the Purple Heart Life Member, Military Order of the World Wars Perpetual Member, Veterans Of Foreign Wars Life Member, American Legion, and Military Officers Association of America.
1st Vice Chairman Steve Schweitzer, USMC Retired UVC 2014 Public Relations Chief
Steve Schweitzer served his nation in the United States Marine Corps for 27.5 years, retiring in 2005 at the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. He served in numerous leadership positions and was part of the March 2003 invasion of Iraq with duties as liaison for embedded reporters attached to combat units. Upon retirement, he entered the private duty home care profession, rising through the ranks to become an industry ambassador and outreach director. He is a former American Red Cross Disaster Services Public Affairs Officer, including assignments to Hurricane Katrina in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In addition to his professional experience, he has served as President of the national Marine Corps Musicians Association, and currently is the Vice President. Steve is also distinguished by his exceptional personal contributions to benefit others, notably including his honorable status as a 400-plus blood platelet donor.
2d Vice Chairman Rick Nathanson, USN Retired UVC Service 10 years
Commander Richard F. Nathanson was commissioned Ensign, U.S. Navy, from the United States Naval Academy in June 1976 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Analysis. He served more than 20 years in the Navy culminating in command of USS MAUNA KEA (AE-22) from January 1993 through decommissioning in June 1995. Additionally he commanded the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Readiness Center in Sacramento, California and was the Director, Surface Reserve Personnel and Manpower. His significant awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Battle Efficiency Awards and two Chief of Naval Operations Safety awards. Since retirement, Nathanson has worked in higher education for more than 14 years.
David Moran served 30 years in the U.S. Naval submarine and surface nuclear propulsion program with enlisted service from 1966 to 1979 on Fleet ballistic Missile and Fast Attack Submarines. He was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer in 1979. Served on the USS Long Beach, commissioning crew of the USS McKee, COMSUBGROUP Five, COMSUBRON Eleven, COMNAVAIRPAC and COMNAVSURFPAC staffs. David’s professional positions following naval service included Solar Turbines and serving as registered tax preparer. He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
